Black Country Museum Christmas

By a roaring fire and underneath a lamp post on a bridge over the cut the quire members sang to huge crowds of appreciative merry makers. Holding their own against a brass band, barrel organ, a drumming band and numerous other carol singing groups and still with all that wondrous Christmas cacophony of sound people stopped and listened.

Later a performance was given to a small but attentive audience in the Chapel. A very enjoyable night of Christmas Cheer.

No supper tonight but most Quire members indulged in the museums legendary fish and chips.

St Mary's Festival of Christmas Trees

The Quire, singers and musicians, were lucky enough to be invited to perform at St Mary's festival of Christmas Trees and what a festival it was, inside this wonderful church were hundreds of beautifully decorated trees.

The Quire sang Christmas carols and played a selection of dance tunes to the full church. An amazing turnout for the festival.

Village Band Musicians were in good form.

Quire members always enjoy singing the many Christmas Carols even when there are 4 versions of WSWTFBN to get through.

As usual we sang for our supper and mulled wine, what a finish to the evening. Thank you the kind people of St Mary's.

St Nicholas Oldbury

On a cold and dark November night the good people of this small attractive Shropshire Church opened their doors to The Quire for a musical journey through the year.

The Quire regaled them with uplifting tunes such as Hail Smiling Morn and dark sombre Minor Key songs as in The Shropshire Funeral Hymn, we certainly know how to cheer our audiences up.

The evening was finished on a high with Sweet Chiming Bells to the words of While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night.

All was followed by a great hot supper with a choice of  four dishes, cheeses and cake, put on by the ladies of the church. What a great venue to sing for our supper.

As always the village band performed many lively pieces even with their chilly fingers.

Of course the wonderful hot punch helped.

Christmas and Cake

Christmas knocks at our doors.

This Sunday rehearsal was a vocal gymnastic workout. The Quire's music director took us non stop through the music for the concert at St Nicholas, then after Cake and a cuppa, there is always cake,  we tackled the Christmas music for Acton.

The band is playing better than ever, the recorders were superb and the return of the Mandolin after a few months absence added further dimension. The Accordion, Concertina, Viola and Bassoon were in fine form and the Drumming in Enrico, wow!

Some quire members who had stayed to help washup even felt the urge to dance.

Four Seasons

Today's rehearsal was exhilarating, our music director had the Quire sing through music from four seasons in just two hours to prepare the Quire for the next concert at St Nicholas Church Oldbury.

One more rehearsal will sort out the dynamics and it seems all members are looking forward to this performance.

And of course there was always the fantastic cake and cuppa.

The Rocky Road was amazing.

Shrewsbury Gig

On Friday the 16th of September JMQ performed at Shrewsbury Unitarian Church. An enjoyable one and a half  hours of singing and band music under the capable guidance of our current music director.

Again we sang and played for our supper.

We must be one of the most well fed quires in the area.

Capability Brown Tea Party

On a windy August day JMQ performed at Church Stretton Rectory Field in celebration of 300 years of Capability Brown. The event was aimed at raising money to help maintain Rectory Field. The Village Band also did its part and a good time was enjoyed by all.

A great afternoon tea was provided and much appreciated by the Quire members.

We never say no to cake and a nice cup of tea.
